Our Role as Parish and Cathedral
For the past 133 years, our church has been serving as a family parish, initially drawing its congregation from the Quality Hill neighborhood that surrounds it on the west edge of Kansas City.

Over the years, the membership base has evolved to extend throughout the entire metropolitan area, yet Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral retains its commitment to a strong and active life as a parish church.

This is evidenced by the many members who regularly travel a considerable distance some over twenty-five miles each way to attend services and participate in parish activities both on weekends and throughout the week.

The building of Founders' Hall and the creation of other meeting space have increased campus usage both by the parish and the community, making it often challenging to reserve a room or find a parking space.

During these years, our diocesan position has also changed, first with the establishment of the Diocese of West Missouri in 1890, and then with the designation of Grace and Holy Trinity as the cathedral church of the diocese in 1935.

Throughout the past 68 years, commitment to serving as a center for the diocese has been an added dimension to our corporate parish life. Again, with the completion of Founders' Hall in 1999, diocesan activities on the campus have increased substantially.

In addition to ordination services, the Cathedral is frequently the site of other diocesan-related gatherings including the annual St. Luke's College graduation, ECW luncheons and conferences, the 2002 Province VII Synod, and the 2003 Annual Conference of North American Deans.
