Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral will host the third
annual Dean’s Cup Classic golf tournament July 26, 2008 at the
Paradise Pointe Golf Complex, on the Outlaw Course, in Smithville,
Mo. (website,
map) Proceeds from the tournament will go to Culinary Cornerstones, a
training program of the Anti-Hunger Network of Episcopal Community
Services.
The format for the Dean’s Cup will be a four-golfer scramble with
prizes awarded to the top three teams. Other opportunities for
prizes include a putting contest and longest drive contest for both
men and women golfers. Someone could win a cash prize for a
hole-in-one. Golfers can register individually or as a team. The
cost is just $140 for each player
(including breakfast, box lunch and awards banquet).
Major event sponsorships are available starting at $500. Advertising
in the tournament program is available starting at $30.
Activities begin at the Outlaw Course at 7:30 a.m. A lobster and
prime rib awards dinner
and silent auction will take place that evening in Founders’ Hall at
Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral. The dinner will be planned,
prepared and served by students of Culinary Cornerstones.
Culinary Cornerstones is a groundbreaking 12-week program that
trains people for jobs in the food service industry. Students learn
culinary techniques, safe food handling, nutrition planning and life
skills with mentoring by previous students and presentations by
current food service professionals. The program addresses root
causes of hunger—unemployment and under-employment, for example—by
providing necessary job skills and placement assistance.
