NECESSARY DREAMS

A cooperative effort between The Dream Works & The Social Action Committee of Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral

Many of us dream of having the “nicer things in life,” even though in reality we already have those things.

Others find themselves dreaming of necessities and small things that can make life just a little more bearable. We call these dreams, “Necessary Dreams.”

You can help make these dreams true!

The following are needs of the most critical kind. All other possibilities have been exhausted. If you can provide goods, services, or finances to fulfill these dreams, then please contact Sam Satterfield at (913) 281-8695 or provide your donation to The Dream Works in the Sunday plate. It is not necessary to donate money—any donated resource, or combination thereof, will help our clients.

You may “adopt” a specific dream by utilizing the code number below each name.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TAX-DEDUCTIBLE CONTRIBUTION!

SANDY’S DREAM
(#1036)

Sandy is very likable young woman; she has good manners and a warm smile. Sandy has Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, and Soto Syndrome. These conditions have affected her emotionally, physically, and intellectually. She is in need of a three wheel bicycle that will help her with physical therapy and enhance her emotional well being. Her family is not able to afford to purchase a bike and would appreciate any contribution toward the acquisition of one for Sandy. Approximate Dollar Value = $250.00 to $300.00. The donation of a used bicycle would be acceptable in lieu of the purchase of a new one.

DREAMS YOU HAVE MADE COME TRUE

The following are needs that you have graciously met so far

THANK YOU!

Brenda (#1001) – Brenda was in need desperate need of new clothes. Your gift of $50.00 allowed her to obtain a summer wardrobe, and now she has more confidence as she begins her GED studies!

Deborah (#1002) – Deborah has multiple disabilities and is unable to leave her home.  The Cathedral has provided an internet ready computer so that Deborah can access web sites to learn about her health and to find friends for on-line for socialization!

Brooklyn’s Dream (#1009) – Brooklyn is a young girl who lives with her aunt and uncle.  She has experienced two strokes which have left her disabled and unable to care for herself. Brooklyn, like all children, is growing rapidly, and is in constant need of larger clothing. A Cathedral Parishioner donated money enabling her to buy a new wardrobe! Thank you!

Aldo (#1014) Bonus Dream! – Thanks to the generosity of the Cathedral, a happily surprised Aldo received a computer system to assist him with schoolwork and on-line communication. Aldo never officially made the Dreams List, but your contributions have made his dream come true.

Michael (#1015) – Working in partnership with the Cathedral, The Dream Works, and another agency, it was possible to restore the utilities for Michael. Michael loss his utilities after his kidneys failed and his wife abandoned him. Your efforts have helped restored his dignity and helped him to cope with a tragic situation.

James (#1019) – Now that the Parishioners have come to the rescue one more time, James and his daughter have received a complete computer system. They are able to complete homework assignments, and also network with others in the cyber-world. It is difficult to communicate the gratitude expressed by James and his daughter.

Lovera (#1021) Bonus Dream #2! – Again, thanks to Parishioner generosity, we have been able to purchase new-born supplies for a 30-year-old single mother who just had a baby boy. The unexpected funds bought clothes and blankets for the unsuspecting mom.

Paul (#1024) Bonus Dream #3! – The Parishioners have done it again, and not just once but twice. Bonus dreams 3 & 4 have been realized. Paul was in desperate need of glasses. Medicare will only pay for glasses once a year. Paul’s eyesight had deteriorated and he needed glasses now. Your support allowed Paul to receive an eye exam and new glasses.

Brenda (#1025) Bonus Dream #4! – Brenda and her family live on a very limited and fixed income. The family received a notice from the city that they would be fined because the grass in their yard was too high. Brenda’s father had been maintaining the yard, but the family’s lawn mower stopped working. Contributions from you resulted in the purchase of a new lawn mower and the fines were averted!

Special Thanks! – While not identifying a specific dream, Mr. Jim Phillips contacted The Dream Works and offered his services and contributions ranging from “sweat equity” to donations of food and Christmas gifts.
