We started this profile booklet with "if these walls could talk, they would speak about us." Even though we are indeed not just buildings, yet our sacred and contemporary structures are an important element in our life together.
The native rock Cathedral speaks of strength. We worship within this ark where all are welcome and can survive the storms of our urban existence. These walls shelter, nourish and give strength. As we turn to follow the processional cross at the end of each service we are empowered to go forth into the world to do God's work.
The oldest element on our campus is the original guild hall, now home to offices for our staff, the Cathedral Book Store, the Common Room and Library and the Music Department facilities.
Added in the 1950's was Haden Hall, connected to the old parish house by a walkway to the west. Originally an addition for all types of parish activities, it has now been converted to the primary function of Church School classrooms, youth meeting room and the nursery.
In the southwest corner of the campus is the headquarters of the Diocese of West Missouri. The building, designed for compatibility with the Cathedral architecture, was erected in 1980.
The newest addition to our facilities is Founders' Hall which since 1999 has served as a gathering place for most parish activities and for diocesan and community functions. From regular Sunday coffee hours to Youth Happening to emergency shelters to concerts events of all kinds make use of its welcoming space. A primary consideration in the design of Founders' Hall was to provide increased space for the Kansas City Community Kitchen. Today our daily guests receive nutritious meals prepared and served in spacious modern facilities.
Nestled between Founders' Hall and the old parish house is a grassy courtyard which is bordered on one side by a Memorial Garden. Here, among flowers and green plants, is a place where members may have ashes of their loved ones interred.
Our occupation of a complete city block means that we have the luxury of both greenery and a large amount of convenient parking. We are also fortunate to have the cooperation of our corporate neighbor across the street to allow us additional free parking on Sundays and for special events.
